Titanic docks at Cherbourg and Queentown before sailing though open seas

The lookouts see an iceberg dead ahead of Titanic's path. The Titanic Strikes the iceberg on the starboard side of her bow.
April 15th 1912, 12am
The captain is told the ship can only stay afloat for a couple of hours. He gives the order to call for help over the marconi wireless.
April 15th 1912, 12:15am
Orders are given to uncover the lifeboats and to get passengers and crew ready on deck. There is only room for half of the estimated 2,227 on board in the lifeboats.
April 15th, 12:05am
The last lifeboat leaves. There are now over 1,500 people left on the ship. The tilt of Titanic's deck grows steeper and steeper.
April 15th 1912, 02:10am
The Titanic's broken off stern settles back into the water, becoming more level for a few moments. Slowly it fills with water and again tilts its end high into the air before sinking into the sea. People in the water slowly freeze to death.
April 15th 1912, 04:10am
The first lifeboat is picked up by the Carpathia.
April 18th 1912, 08:50am
The Carpathia arrives at New York with Titanic's survivors.
April 19th - May 25th 1912
Several ships are sent to the disaster site to recover bodies. A total of 328 bodies are found floating in the area.
April 25th - May 25th 1912
American enquiry into the disaster was held.
May 2nd - July 3rd 1912
British Board of Trade enquiry into the disaster was held.

Robert Ballard's expedition team discovers the wreck of the Titanic
